
Hawaii will fete Selleck

HONOLULU - Tom Selleck, star of the Hawaii-based television series "Magnum, P.I.," will receive the Hawaii International Film Festival's inaugural Film in Hawaii Award. The state-sponsored award, to be presented Friday, recognizes significant contributions to promoting the local film industry. The recipient may be a filmmaker, star or production company that has helped develop the reputation of Hawaii as a key tropical film location.
....The festival's major award, the Golden Maile, presented to the best feature film and documentary, will also be announced Friday.
........Nominees for best documentary are "Amargosa" (U.S.); "Conscience & the Constitution" (U.S.); "The Diplomat" (Australia); "The Moth Loves Doodie" (Australia); and "Sons of Hawaii" (U.S.). HIFF, a two-week festival that runs November 3-19, is celebrating its 20th anniversary.
