Amargosa

By Robert Koehler

"...Besides preserving many of Becket's perfs, pic situates them within a life whose art is itself the overcoming of obstacles, thereby placing "Amargosa" among prime examples of inspiring cinema about artists and art-making."

"...Todd Robinson's beautifully rendered oddball documentary of the same name, narrated by Mary McDonnell, pays fascinating homage to this reclusive eccentric in toe shoes."

Art Bloomed in the Desert

By Jay Carr

"...Todd Robinson's "Amargosa" (the town's original Spanish name) is a remarkable documentary about an even more remarkable life that captures the glories and the costs of a life of artistic endeavor."

"Amargosa" (*** 1/2 Stars) (Director Todd Robinson; U.S.).

Many films claim to be a celebration of the human spirit, but "Amargosa" is the real deal. This beautifully photographed documentary traces the life and times of 74 year-old Marta Becket, a dancer/painter/musician who abandoned the art world of New York in the 1960s to settle in the nether town of Death Valley Junction.

Amargosa

By Peter Stack

"...The film is an engaging testament to the pursuit of dreams. Becket overcame much and worked hard to get where she is today, a relatively unknown artist in the middle of nowhere."

TODD ROBINSON knew that his ancestors had settled in Westhampton Beach in the 17th century. Slamdance Preview: The Way-Off Broadway Desert Beauty of "Amargosa"

By Holly Willis

"...With his latest film, "Amargosa," Robinson profiles Becket and her theater, constructing an elegy not only for a woman and her commitment to living a life devoted to art, but to our culture's fading understanding of art itself."

Film Threat Review: Amargosa

By Merle Bertrand

"Amargosa" is as much about what Marta represents as it is about her personally. By following her dream, no matter how foolhardy it might have seemed, Marta Becket has demonstrated an unwavering devotion to the arts, creativity and the muse within. By capturing her story on film, Todd Robinson has provided us with a source of inspiration that will linger long after Marta has performed her last pirouette on the stage she so lovingly created in the desert."

Park City Utah  Mountain Times Review

By Cornelia deBruin

When a filmmaker finds an incredible story, the safe bet is that the story will be told. But when the story stands on its own, is written well, the director works with an incredible photographer and singer, you have a potential winner.

Amargosa

By Heather Moylan

"...Blended into the film's narrative is an animal-rights plot to rival "Bambi," a haunted-house yarn to humble "The Blair Witch Project" and a romance more moving than "The English Patient".
